Cape Town - Bidvest Wits named defender
Sifiso Hlanti as the Player of the Season and Players' Player of the
Season in Wednesday's club awards ceremony in Johannesburg.
Despite a challenging campaign for the Gavin Hunt-coached outfit, Hlanti's commitment and level of consistency saw him honoured by those at the Clever Boys with the two gongs.
Wits spent the earlier part of the season in the relegation zone and may not finish in the top eight should results not go their way on the final day of the campaign, when they face Platinum Stars on Saturday.
With that said, the team did win the Telkom Knockout crown to at least add a positive sheen to what has overall been a disappointing season for the 2016/17 Premiership champions.Meanwhile, veteran centre-back Bongani Khumalo was handed the Coach's Award for his professionalism and attitude. Hunt told the club's official website: "I would like to give this award to a player who is hard working both on and off the pitch, the most professional footballer and who delivered no matter when he was called upon."Students' Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Schloss added of Hlanti's awards: "This award (Players' Player) is voted for by each and every player on the team, and this year this player received all the votes except for two. He won by a landslide."In addition, the Young Player of the Season gong went to young up-and-coming Bafana Bafana international Reeve Frosler, who has made 16 league appearances in 2017/18.
