Cape Town - Wits continued their impressive form in the PSL as they came from behind to defeat Free State Stars 2-1 in Saturday's clash at Goble Park.
It was the home side who hit the front inside the opening minutes as Congolese striker Harris Tchilimbou found space at the far post, and he headed home beyond goalkeeper Darren Keet who flapped at a cross.
The Clever Boys got back on level terms in the 32nd minute through Zimbabwean Terrence Dzukamanja, who applied a smart finish.
Wits were now in the ascendancy and Stars were in debt to 'keeper Badra Ali Sangare as he expertly kept out a strike from the lively Deon Hotto.
After the break, central defender Buhle Mkhwanazi bundled home, but the goal was not given due to a foul on Sangare in the build-up.
With that said, the Students looked the more threatening and made their dominance count as the evergreen Elias Pelembe slotted home with a fine diving header in the 73rd minute from Hotto's assist. It was the Namibia star's second assist of the game.
Ea Lla Koto struggled to make any openings in the final stages of the encounter as Gavin Hunt's men extended their lead at the top of the table, with second-placed Orlando Pirates playing Highlands park in Saturday's late kick-off.
