Wits confirm Gamal departure

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed that on-loan striker Amr Gamal has left the club to join Finnish champions HJK Helsinki.

Hunt, who on Monday scooped the Absa Premiership Coach of the Month award for February, said things did not work out for the Egypt international at the Bidvest Stadium and in the end the two parties agreed to part ways.

Gamal made a promising start to life in the Absa Premiership, scoring important goals for the Students in the opening stages of the season, but lost his place in the team while there were also reports of a fall-out with his coach.

"Gamal has gone to Finland. It did not work out. That is football," Hunt told the media on Monday.

"It is disappointing because I really thought he would do well for us and it didn't work out because various football reasons.

"The mentality was okay, I just felt that there are certain things that the game requires in different countries and obviously it's unfortunate that he got on the end and missed a lot of chances, but that happens in football.

"There are no bad feelings, it happens in football."
