Bidvest Wits COO Jonathan Schloss has confirmed that Mozambican winger Elias Pelembe still has an option to renew his contract for another year and should do so shortly.
According to head coach Gavin Hunt, Pelembe's future is all but secured in Braamfontein for another year, but they are just waiting for the 36-year-old to return from Mozambique to put pen to paper.
"The management has sorted it (his future) out," Hunt told Daily Sun.
Schloss added that the Clever Boys have stalled contract negotiations until the Mambas international is back in South Africa as the season is currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"There are no issues, we don’t discuss player contracts in public. Pelembe still has an option (to renew), he is still in Mozambique and we will wait for him to come back," said Schloss.
Pelembe made 24 appearances for the Students this season and found the back of the net four times.
Schloss also confirmed that the club was close to extending the contract of goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo.
"We will meet Brighton’s representative to sort out his future," explained the COO.
