Wits, Chiefs eye Mashego swoop

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits are reportedly keeping tabs on the situation at Mamelodi Sundowns with the intention of making a move for striker Katlego Mashego.

The 33-year-old veteran has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs in recent times, but Wits are also readying an enticing offer for his services.

Mashego has had little game-time this season and wants regular playing time after making only three appearances in the Premiership thus far.

Wits coach Gavin Hunt is well aware of Mashego's capabilities from their time together at SuperSport United.

"The coach wants to boost the striking force in the new year and having worked with Mashego in the past he feels that it would be a great move for the team to give Mashego a chance to play again as he is not playing at Sundowns right now," an unnamed source told Goal website.

"The coach wants to win the league and he feels having experienced players like Mashego would help in his quest to lift the title."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
