Chiefs need Messi, Ronaldo to score - says Williams

Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs ace Mark Williams believes the club need to sign a marquee striker in the mould of a Didier Drogba, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

Amakhosi have struggled to find the back of the net this season, with their leading scorer Gustavo Paez on three goals in the Premiership.

As such, Williams takes the view that finding a prolific marksman is going to be key to their chances in the January transfer window.

He told Soccer Laduma: "A top team like Kaizer Chiefs - soccer is all about scoring goals, people shouldn't talk about good football. They will say they played good football, but they didn't put the ball in the net. They will say they had plenty of opportunities, but they didn't score.

"So, they need strikers, if they can't get strikers - call me to their camp and tell me, 'Mr Williams come coach our strikers to be in the kitchen'. I think they should try to get Drogba if they can try to get Ronaldo or Messi - don't laugh, that is what they need because there is nothing in South Africa. I am being honest.

"If there is a striker that wants to prove me wrong, it will be a pleasure to see if he can score week in and week out."

Chiefs next face Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in an Absa Premiership clash on Saturday with Komphela's side three points off the log leaders.

Kick off is at 15:30.
