Mere - who was relegated with former side Dikwena - has been training under the watchful eye of head coach Gavin Hunt during the club's pre-season preparation.

Platinum Stars coach Roger de Sa confirmed that the 34-year-old along with a host of other players had left the club after their relegation to the National First Division (NFD).

Wits endured a tough league campaign last time out and appear to be in the process of re-building the squad as they look to once again challenge for the Absa Premiership crown.

Wits have so far released up to ten players after finishing in the season in a disastrous 13th position in the league standings

The Students have already recruited goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo from Orlando Pirates, as well as midfielders Bantu Mzwakali and Mxolisi Machupu of Chippa United.

While veteran centre-back Robyn Johannes has already joined on a pre-contract agreement from Cape Town City.
