Cape Town - AmaZulu head coach Jozef Vukusic believes his side's 1-0 win over Polokwane City was a crucial result in the context of the relegation battle.

Both Usuthu and Rise and Shine are currently in the relegation zone, but the former have a three-point advantage over the latter thanks to Bongi Ntuli's winner on Sunday.

Vukusic was relieved to pick up three points at home and is hoping it will help propel his charges forward and away from the danger zone.

"The win was the most important today," Vukusic said after the game, as quoted by IOL.

"Winning today was a huge step for us in our pursuit of avoiding relegation. I'm happy.

"I hope that we will win everything. This is the first step towards that. Our objective is to be safe.

"We've won the game as a team and that was important. The attitude was good.

"We worked well for each other. That is what can win you games. It will be important for the next game as well.

"Of course, we will discuss some mistakes, technical and tactically issues."
