Cape Town - Recent Kaizer Chiefs recruit Virgil Vries says he admires Itumeleng Khune though he intends to give the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper a run for his money.
Vries was recently brought in to Chiefs to add experience to the goalkeeping department, following the departure of Brilliant Khuzwayo to Orlando Pirates.
The 27-year-old spent last season at Baroka where he played 22 matches for Bakgaga in all competitions. Prior to being with the side, he also had spells with Maritzburg United and Golden Arrows.
Nonetheless, the Keetmanshoop-born star admitted he had respect for Khune but revealed he would give him as much competition as possible, including attempting to match and better the 31-year-old's distribution.
"Itumeleng Khune is my hero. I have always been following his career," he said as quote by the club's official website.
"He's my role model. It's a great opportunity to work with him. We will work hard and push each other for the better of the club.
"Rowen (Fernandez) was the first to kick the ball out with a half-volley. But Itu really mastered it.
"I am great at doing that half-volley as well, I am breathing down Itu's neck."
