Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi says the side will leave no stone unturned in their bid to be crowned CAF Champions League winners.
Having won their maiden CAF Champions League trophy in 2016/2017, Downs were unfortunately unable to replicate that success last season as they were knocked out at the semi-final stage by Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca.
But Vilakazi says the Brazilians have put that disappointment behind them and will be going all out to win it as coach Pitso Mosimane has highlighted the continental showpiece as the number one priority.
Downs' continental campaign gets underway on Sunday with a trip to face AS Otoho d’Oyo in Congo-Brazzaville.
“We always want to win it. When we get into the Champions League there’s that excitement from the team and energy and we say ‘this time around it has to be ours’,” the former Bidvest Wits captain says.
“Even last season we lost to a very good team. This season we want to go all the way, there’s no doubt about it.”
Vilakazi has likened AS Otoho to two West Africans clubs they have faced in the past.
“I can only compare from the teams we’ve played against in the Champions League," said the 29-year-old.
"The one I can think of is Lobi Stars, the other is [AS] Vita. We were able to go through their videos to prepare ourselves.”
