Vilakazi shines on 'Downs debut

Cape Town - Sibusiso Vilakazi got his Mamelodi Sundowns career up and running with a goal and assist as the club booked their place in the MTN8 semifinals with a 3-1 win over SuperSport United at Loftus Stadium on Sunday.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder scored the Brazilians second with Wayne Arendse and Khama Billiat also on target for the home side.

Kingston Nkhatha found the back of the net for Matsatsantsa; for what proved to be a mere consolation strike.

Sundowns next face Chippa United in the final four with Bidvest Wits and Cape Town City going head-to-head for a place in the showpiece.

The league has been yearning for a match to rival the Soweto Derby and while the Tshwane Derby - between Sundowns and SuperSport - still has a long way to go in challenging the famous match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, the capital sides stepped up to the plate.

Following pre-match shenanigans which involved both teams warming-up on the same side of the pitch, the action got underway.

SuperSport were the better side in the early exchanges, but it would be Sundowns to take the lead through Arendse in the 18th minute. The centre back hammering home from close range after the visitors failed to clear their lines.

Matsatsanta leveled matters on the stroke of half-time through Nkhatha - the Zimbabwe  international popping up a mere three minutes after emerging off the bench.

A cagey second stanza sparked into gear in the 74th minute with Vilakazi netting his first goal for the club;  guiding Hlompho Kekana's fierce shot into the back of the net - seconds after he was denied by Ronwen Williams from point-blank range.

Billiat made sure of the result five minutes later following a swift counter-attack. Percy Tau and Vilakazi teaming up down the left flank to set up the Zimbabwe international who curled home to send the home fans into delirium.
