Victory could push Chiefs to Absa Premiership summit

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs will be targeting a move to the top of the Absa Premiership standings when they take on Highlands Park at Makhulong Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Amakhosi have hit their stride in recent weeks and are now on a three-game winning streak.

The Soweto giants beat Cape Town City 4-1 before recording successive 2-0 wins over Free State Stars and AmaZulu.

The run of wins has lifted Giovanni Solinas' side up to third position, only one point behind Orlando Pirates and Wits.

The Clever Boys do, however, have a game in hand over the rival Sowetan clubs.

Chiefs will be hoping that both Wits and Pirates fail to win their midweek clashes in order to claim the Premiership top spot.

Midfielder George Maluleka is set to return to the Chiefs starting line-up after missing out on the win over Usuthu due to a thigh injury.

"It has to be three points. Of course, I don't take anything away from our opponent, but we want to continue our winning run," Maluleka told the club's official website.

"Highlands Park are a good side. It is always difficult against them, as they are fighters. They also have a very experienced coach in Owen Da Gama.

"We just need to keep our focus and be mentally strong. We have now won three games in a row and that has given us a lot of faith. We want to build on that. We want to keep the momentum."

Meanwhile, Owen Da Gama's troops are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Free State Stars in their last Premiership outing.

Prior to the loss at Stars, the Lions of the North beat Golden Arrows 2-1 after four consecutive draws to kick off their league campaign.

The top-flight newcomers are ninth in the table with seven points from six games and could climb to sixth with a win over Chiefs.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
