Cape Town - AmaZulu defeated Golden Arrows 2-1 in the KZN derby at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday night in an Absa Premiership encounter.
After a cagey start to the encounter it was the home side that almost took the lead in 23rd minute. Mabhuti Khenyeza was fouled just outside the box and afforded Siyabonga Nomvethe with an effort from a set piece. Nkosingiphile Gumede in the Arrows goal was alive to the danger as he tipped the effort over.
Four minutes later it was the turn of the visitors to threaten. A Velemsini Ndwandwe header forced a fine save from goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha after his defence was caught flat footed by a sublime Lehlohonolo Nonyane cross.
Arrows opened the scoring five minutes after the restart. Mutizwa was sent through on goal by a defence splitting pass from Limbikani Mzava and the Zimbabwean made no mistake as he slotted the ball home through Mbatha’s legs.
Usuthu equalised just eight minutes later. A good pick out from Sibusiso Mabiliso saw Siyethemba Mnguni steal in at the near post and register his first goal for the club.
The home team then turned the game on its head three minutes later. Khenyeza showed good strength and laid the ball off for Mnguni to complete his brace as he thumped the ball home from just inside the box.
