Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have signed Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi and Bidvest Wits fullback Reeve Frosler ahead of the transfer deadline, while left-back Godfrey Walusimbi has been released by the club.

Nigeria international Akpeyi has signed a 17-month contract with Amakhosi, and Frosler has penned a deal for three years and five months.

In addition to the two new signings, Chiefs have also promoted defender Happy Mashiane and goalkeeper Karabo Molefe to the senior setup in order to accelerate their learning.

"Today we acquired the services of goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi from Chippa United and right-back Reeve Frosler from Bidvest Wits," Bobby Motaung is quoted as saying by Kaizer Chiefs' official website.

"They will help bolster our goalkeeping department and backline. We are happy to have these players in our team and look forward to them contributing positively to the team."

He continued: "Apart from Mashiane, we are excited to announce the promotion of another goalkeeper Karabo Molefe. Karabo is only 16-years-old but has done well in the development team.

"With his height and talent, we believe he will be one to watch for the future as he also has an advantage of learning from all the experienced top goalkeepers we have in the team.

"We have a fairly young side and we’ve added more young talent, which will inject more young energy in the squad. We hope to go all the way in the Nedbank Cup and challenge for league honours come end of the season," Motaung concluded.

Walusimbi, meanwhile, has been released "because the club international player quota had reached the limit", according to the club's website.

"We would like to thank Godfrey for his contribution to Kaizer Chiefs and wish him all the best," added Motaung.
