TS Galaxy reaching for the stars in Nedbank Cup

Johannesburg - TS Galaxy, a NFD club owned by football agent Tim Sukazi, reached the Nedbank Cup semi-finals for the first time Wednesday just four years after being formed.

The side from the eastern Mpumalanga province came from behind to snatch a 2-1 away victory over fellow second-tier outfit Cape Umoya United in the first quarter-final.

Katlego Otladisa nodded Cape Umoya into an early lead that was cancelled out against the run of play just before half-time when Zakhele Lepasa converted a penalty.

The winning goal came two minutes from time when a cross struck the knee of Sizwe Mdlinzo and flew over goalkeeper Dino Visser into the net.

"Some strong words were uttered at half-time," said Galaxy coach and former Mamelodi Sundowns star Dan Malesela.

"Our first half performance was out of character. It was not the Galaxy I know. The pressure of playing such a big match got to some of my players."

All four Galaxy victories in the Nedbank Cup have been against lower-league clubs, but they will face top-flight opponents in the semi-finals as the other six contenders are Absa Premiership sides.

The highlight of the three weekend ties is the Sunday showdown between record 13-time Nedbank Cup winners Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City.
