Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs striker Bernard Parker has revealed he was inspired by Amakhosi legend, Herman 'Pele' Blaschke, growing up, and explained why he's nicknamed the 'Hond'.

The forward, who managed five Premiership goals in 2016/17, hails from Reiger Park township in Boksburg, and he lived in the same street as Chiefs legend Blaschke.

As such, the 31-year-old revealed what advice the late striker told him as a youngster, saying: "Every time you take a shot, tighten your arse. That way you get more power in the shot."

Parker added that his nickname also came from his childhood experiences when his friends would say of his obvious football ability: "You are the Top Dog. Hier kom Die Hond."

The attacker played for Eredivisie outfit FC Twente from 2009 until 2011 and he also said he visited former South African soccer star, Darius Dhlomo, in that country during that period.

The late Dhlomo played with the legendary but sadly departed Steve 'Kalamazoo' Mokone - the first black star from Mzansi to play in Europe.
