Tinkler: The pressure is on Sundowns, Wits and Chiefs

Cape Town - After their narrow 1-0 loss to Maritzburg United earlier in the week, Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says they have to pick themselves up for their next game.

The Citizens take on Free State Stars at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday looking to get their title challenge back on track.

"We were simply not good enough against Maritzburg, and you can't just point a finger at one person," Tinkler was quoted by the SowetanLIVE website.

"But we have to bounce back. Obviously, our targets and objectives are totally different to where we find ourselves now and for that reason, there should be no fear to play because the pressure (to win the league) is not on us.

"The pressure is on (Mamelodi) Sundowns, (Bidvest) Wits, (Kaizer) Chiefs. We've done exceptionally well and I'm proud of the team.

"I still think Sundowns are the favourites right now because of their run-in. For us, it's about bouncing back," said Tinkler.

With four games remaining, third place City trail leaders Wits by five points. A victory will see them leapfrog champions Sundowns into second place.

Kick off is at 20:00.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
