Tinkler: Still a lot of work to be done

Cape Town - Cape Town City FC coach Eric Tinkler underlined the importance of winning their maiden Premiership match after their 2-0 triumph over Polokwane City on Tuesday.

The newly-assembled City FC started their campaign with a bang, courtesy of goals from Bongi Jayiya and Aubrey Ngoma.

And Tinkler has praised his players for rising to the occasion in their first match at Cape Town Stadium.

"It was very important because we are talking about a new club. When I arrived here we had no defence," Tinkler told KickOff.

"We had a right-back only in Vincent Kobola. We had to rebuild the whole defence and strengthen the team.

"Truth be told, I knew I would only know where we are after today. After the 90 minutes I have a true reflection of where we are and whether we made the right choices in terms of the players we brought in. I feel we have.

"But there is still a lot of work to be done, these guys need to get a better understanding in terms of their strengths and their weaknesses, and playing together. We need to create some sort of cohesion and consistency in our play."

City FC will next face Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 quarter-finals at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday evening.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
