Cape Town - Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler has shed some light on how pre-season is going as well as on the new signings at the club.

The Team of Choice have brought in Judas Moseamedi on a two-year deal from Cape Town City after he impressed during a loan spell at the club during the latter half of last season.

They have also signed Phumlani Ntshangase from Bidvest Wits, who worked with Tinkler during his time at the Clever Boys' academy. Meanwhile, they have ensured the return of Kwanda Mngonyama from Cape Town City, who had previously been at Maritzburg for three seasons during a loan spell between 2013 and 2017.

Tinkler says it is an added bonus that he was worked with most of the signings before as it means they won't have to get used to his methods all that much.

"Most of those we've signed I've worked with before, Judas Mosaemadi was with me at Cape Town City, he brought something to the club during the second half of the season," said the former Bafana Bafana midfielder, who was part of the team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996.

"Phumlani Ntshangase is a young boy, I've worked well with him from junior level at Bidvest Wits, he can play almost anywhere in midfield which gives us more options.

"Kwanda Mngonyama has been with the team before and I believe he will bring much-needed experience and that fighting spirit, which is very important for the club."

Meanwhile, Tinkler expressed his satisfaction with the physical state of the players after returning for pre-season.

"They look good, it shows that they had a good rest, the spirits are high and they didn't lose any fitness," Tinkler tells KickOff. "Maybe it's because it was not a long break, now it's about maintenance."

The Team of Choice have pre-season friendlies lined up against Golden Arrows, AmaZulu and Bidvest Wits as part of the Umsunduzi Cup on the weekend of July 21 and will also take part in the annual KZN Premier's Cup a week later, which features local sides Royal Eagles, Richards Bay FC, Uthongathi FC and Real Kings FC.
