Port Elizabeth - Erik Tinkler recorded his first win as Chippa United coach with a late 1-0 defeat of Baroka FC on Saturday.
The match looked to heading for a goalless stalemate until Andile Mbenyane popped up with a late winner, much to the joy and relief of the Chilli Boys' boss.
Both sides looked to put the ball on the deck and probe for openings as the clash got underway.
Neither side though proved particularly dominant and were guilty of losing possession in the final third of the pitch, leading to a lack of goal-scoring opportunities.
Much of the play saw both teams look to get forward before spending much of their energy trying to get the ball back.
For Tinkler, fresh off losing to former side SuperSport United, it was a welcome relief to pick up the three points to end the club's winless run, that had seen them record just one point this season in a 2-2 draw with Black Leopards.
It is a similar scenario for Baroka, who have won one, drawn two and lost three of their opening six Absa Premiership encounters.
