Cape Town - Chippa United coach Eric Tinkler has heaped praise on his assistant, Vincent Kobola, explaining why he has brought him in at the Chilli Boys.
Kobola played for Tinkler during his stint at Cape Town City and only left the Citizens when his contract expired at the end of last season.
Despite his lack of coaching experience, he has plenty as a player in the Premiership and Tinkler believes that his Chippa side are reaping the benefits.
“Vincent and I spent a year at Cape Town City and by then already I was considering him as an assistant coach because Vincent has been a captain for many years. He's a leader and a great professional,” Tinkler said, according to KickOff website.
“Some of the players respect him highly. When I say that I don't only refer to Cape Town City players, but he gets calls from many players, be it from Chiefs or Pirates, asking for advice because he has been in the league for 16 years.
“That experience you can't buy anywhere. He is somebody I know, and I trust. He is not here as a yes man because he voices his opinion like he did as my vice-captain at Cape Town City.”
Tinkler was brought in following the controversial sacking of Dan Malesela and faces a difficult task. Chippa currently sit bottom of the league with just one point from four games.
However, with Kobola at his side, the former Orlando Pirates coach will be looking to help the Chilli Boys rediscover their best form and bounce back from a 2-1 defeat to SuperSport United in his first game in charge.
