Tinkler and Vukuzic agree the pitch was awful

Cape Town - Coaches Eric Tinkler and Josef Vukuzic agreed that the King Zwelithini Stadium's pitch was shocking during the KwaZulu-Natal derby last weekend.

Maritzburg United and AmaZulu played out a goalless draw in their Absa Premiership clash as both sides struggled to play their natural game on a difficult surface.

Tinkler pulled no punches in his assessment of the pitch and Vukuzic agreed wholeheartedly with the criticism.

"To be brutally honest, everybody that was watching this on TV would have changed the channel. I don’t think the pitch helped either team, both teams were forced to play ugly football," said Tinkler, as quoted by KickOff.

"It wasn’t a great game of football. We had to play off the second ball. It was extremely difficult, it was all about fighting for the second ball.

"Defensively we were well-structured and organised. It is hard for me to be very critical of my players because of the pitch."

Vukusic echoed Tinkler's statement, saying: "This was not a good pitch and I would like to see us playing at Moses Mabhida Stadium in the next two years, if not sooner."
