Tinkler admits SuperSport were lucky against CT City

Cape Town - SuperSport United coach Eric Tinkler feels his side were fortunate to walk away with a point after a 1-1 draw with Cape Town City on Saturday.

After falling behind through Aubrey Ngoma's first-half goal, the CAF Confederation Cup runners-up had their backs against the wall at the Mbombela Stadium.

Tinkler's former side missed a host of clear-cut opportunities to put the game beyond doubt and it cost them when Nigeria international defender Azubuike Egwuekwe popped up with a stoppage-time equaliser to secure a priceless away draw.

While the point moved SuperSport United to 15 points from eight games, Tinkler was brutally honest in his post-match interview.

"I don't think we pitched for the races today. Yes, in the first 10-15 minutes, we had chances to score but after that it was all Cape Town City," he told SuperSport TV.

"We were lethargic, too slow on the ball. Too many players underperformed today. We were too slow and nearly got punished for it. I think we are very lucky to leave here with a point."

Matsatsansa, who have six games in hand over most of their domestic rivals due to CAF Football commitments have a chance to get back to winning ways when they face Free State Stars and Wednesday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
