Tembo coy on Qalinge future

Cape Town - SuperSport United manager Kaitano Tembo would not be drawn on whether the club had decided to sign former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabo Qalinge or not.

Qalinge is on trial at the Tshwane club after his contract expired at the Buccanneers in June.

Meanwhile, Tembo admits that he is looking to make more signings in the transfer window, he could not clarify whether the club had decided about Qalinge yet.

"We’ll make an announcement on Thabo Qalinge when the time is right,” Tembo said.

"There are still a couple of deals in the pipeline and I don’t want to pre-empt everything before the deals are concluded.”

The Matsatsantsa boss was then more specific about the positions he is looking to fill.

"As you know, the window is still open and we’re still looking to beef up our squad in certain areas upfront and also defensively,” said Tembo.

"We’re a little bit thin like now we’re already missing Aubrey, which makes it a little bit difficult for us in terms of having depth and quality.

"Some of the youngsters we have are also there as squad members to gain a little bit of experience – Khanyisile Mayo is registered and trains with the first team but he’ll play mostly in the MDC this season because this is his final chance to play there.

“The same goes for Jesse Don as well, he’s also 19-years-old – a first-team player but will play most of his matches at MDC level because we want them to play regularly.

“So, we’re a little bit thin as a squad in terms of depth and quality, and we’re still going to do a little bit of business before the window closes.”

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
