Modise has played an influential role for City since joining the side in 2017 from Mamelodi Sundowns, however, he will be 37 in December.
The veteran play-maker was a part of the squad that won the MTN8 earlier this season and it appears he is still a favourite of coach Benni McCarthy.
In 2018/19 the former Bafana Bafana superstar has made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Mother City based outfit.
Nonetheless, McCarthy has explained to reporters that 'The General' has to undergo talks with club boss John Comitis to determine his future as well as the versatile Thamsanqa Mkhize whose deal also expires in June.
He said: "These are two very important players in the team. Teko, with his experience.
"I think Teko and his agent will need to sit with the chairman [John Comitis].
"But as far as I am concerned, these players, when I am in a suitable position, I put them in."
Another Citizens star with his deal coming to an end is Austrian Roland Putsche who produced a Man-of-the-Match display against Baroka at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
