Teboho Moloi: Pirates wasted their chance

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates legend and long time former assistant coach Teboho Moloi believes the Sea Robbers have wasted their chance to win the Absa Premiership in 2018/19.

Pirates did hold the upper hand over Mamelodi Sundowns in the title race until they dropped two points in last Saturday's 2-2 draw with Cape Town City.

The result means Sundowns can now claim the title if they beat Free State Stars in their final match this weekend, regardless of how Bucs do against Polokwane City.

Moloi told Kickoff: "Pirates lost their chance when they drew with Sundowns [on April Fool's Day], and the Gods came back and favoured them [with a second chance].

"Now they had another chance on Saturday against Benni, and again they didn't take it. So, for me, it's curtains, it's all over for them.

"For me, I think the players they have can't handle crunch time, like when they went on to go and lose to Baroka [in the Telkom Knockout final in December], that was crunch time. And then crunch time came again against Sundowns, and again against Benni.

"So, something is missing there where it matters most and when they must lift up their hands and say we want this thing, like the team we had [in 2012].

"When we said we want to go there, they will go. So, for me, after Sundowns won [against Golden Arrows], Pirates can forget it.

"There's no way Sundowns will go and lose against Free State Stars, and there's no way Polokwane City will come here and want to lose against Pirates."
