Tau putting titles with Downs over personal awards

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns star forward Percy Tau has revealed his hunger for silverware overrules his desire for personal accolades such as the Player of the Season award.

Tau has been strongly favoured to win the individual best player award after an outstanding season for the Pitso Mosimane-coached outfit. The Bafana Bafana international has scored eight goals and recorded nine assists in all competitions this season.

The 23-year-old told Soccer Laduma radio: "The fans are putting too much pressure on me. I am only really, really looking so much on winning the league.

"If I can win the Champions League I will also be happy, and the Nedbank Cup. The focus is on what I have now. I try always to focus on that, but the fans also demand something else - which is the Player of the Season award.

"We'll see about that one, but I’m really just looking forward to having the PSL medal if it happens, or the Nedbank medal or the Champions League."

The player could be back in action when Sundowns face Free State Stars at the Loftus Versveld Stadium on February 21. The action gets underway from 19:30.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
