Tau joins the likes of Sergio Aguero as Puma athlete

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns striker Percy Tau has joined the PUMA-sponsored players in the South African Premier Soccer league.

Tau joins his club and Bafana Bafana teammate Themba Zwane as well as Kaizer Chiefs winger George Lebese among those wearing the PUMA evoSPEED SL boot.

In a statement to the media, PUMA is proud to present the latest addition to its growing team of football stars with the 22 year-old joining Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and others.

Having netted eight goals coupled with nine assists so far for Sundowns, the Brazilians are currently challenging to defend their Absa Premiership crown and their CAF Champions League title.

Meanwhile, Tau praised his new boots as he believes they will help improve his game, saying they are light and will definitely suit his style.

“When PUMA took over Mamelodi Sundowns I tried the boot and I loved it. Themba Zwane is another reason, he has always been telling me about how great PUMA is, so when they approached me I already knew a lot about them,” said Tau.

“It’s so light and suits my game. Even though the boot feels so light, it still is very comfortable and my feet are well protected.

“We are a very strong team that has grown so much together in the last year, our togetherness and challenges and triumphs of the last year give us confidence. In the end, we will see who will win the championship.”

On the other hand, the Emalahleni-born speedy player has thanked the African champions' technical team which is led by coach Pitso Mosimane.

“All the coaches have played a part, coach Pitso Mosimane and his assistants coach Rhulani Mokoena and coach Manqoba Mngqithi," adds the 'Lion'.

“They have all given me advice on different aspects and I appreciate their contribution to my game.”

Sundowns will meet Polokwane City in the league on Tuesday before travelling to Uganda's Kampala City this coming weekend for the second leg of the Champions League.
