Tau: I'm nothing without my team-mates

Cape Town - Striking sensation Percy Tau has praised team-work at Mamelodi Sundowns, saying he would not have had a stunning season without the support of his team-mates.

The Bafana Bafana forward has been tipped to walk away with the Player of the Season accolade after an impressive season with the Brazilians, who are in pole position for the Absa Premiership title.

Tau is also fighting for the Golden Boot award with Polokwane City's Rodney Ramagalela and both have eleven goals so far into the season.

Sundowns have now gone six points ahead of second placed Orlando Pirates in the race after securing Tau's lone goal in 1-0 win over Golden Arrows on Tuesday evening.

“We tried everything, we were close to getting the second one, but we couldn’t and I will take the one goal," Tau told Supersport TV in the post-match interview.

The 23-year-old also spoke of the recent comments by Senegal legend, El Hadji Diouf, and said he is grateful the former Liverpool striker recognises his talent and the hard work he puts into his game.

Diouf said the South African international has the potential to be even better than countryman Sadio Mane and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, but must leave South Africa to test himself against the best in Europe, to be able to reach his true potential.

"Look, I spoke to him in Senegal and I’m glad he was able to see the talent and the hard work. It shows the good work that we do at Sundowns and I’m nothing without my teammates.

"We have got a short term goal and we focus on the five or three games and that is something that keeps us on our feet.

"The coach [Pitso Mosimane] always believes that we do nothing on the pitch and that is why we always give everything whenever we get the chance."
