Surgery ends Vilakazi's season - report

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Sibusiso Vilakazi underwent surgery on his injured Achilles at the weekend, which has reportedly ended his season prematurely.

The Bafana Bafana international sustained the injury in a practice match against SuperSport United last week to rule him out of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double-header with Seychelles.

Vilakazi subsequently went under the knife and faces a lengthy spell on the side-lines, according to SowetanLIVE, who claimed to have received confirmation of the blow from Sundowns.

The 28-year-old had featured in six of the opening seven Premiership games for Pitso Mosimane's side this season and opened his league account in the 3-3 draw with AmaZulu last month.

However, 'Vila' will play no further part in the Brazilians' title defence, while he also misses their Telkom Knockout and CAF Champions League campaigns.

The former Wits ace joins Aubrey Ngoma, George Lebese, Anthony Laffor, Thapelo Morena and Themba Zwane on the treatment table at Chloorkop.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
