SuperSport sink sorry AmaTuks

Cape Town - SuperSport United managed to hoist themselves into the top half of the Premiership standings after they earned a 2-0 win over troubled University of Pretoria on Sunday afternoon.

A tame start to the game finally came to life after 13 minutes, with Khumalo linking up with Phala before firing past the goalkeeper left-footed to open the scoring.

Phala then came close to turning from provider to scorer but saw his shot parried away by Tristyn Coetsee, while Kingston Nkhatha wasted a good chance after heading wide from Dove Wome's delivery.

The Zimbabwean again proved wasteful in the closing stages of the first half after shooting well off target, while Phala was once more denied by the keeper, who did well to keep out another effort from the striker a few minutes into the second period.

Supersport continued asking most of the questions and Michael Boxall came close to doubling their lead after 65 minutes, only to send his header fizzing just wide of the post.

AmaTuks finally mustered a notable chance with 15 minutes remaining, and it almost turned out to be the opener from Getaneh Kebede, only for Ronwen Williams to pull off a wonderful fingertip save.

However, there was to be no comeback for the Tshwane side as Phala finally got the better of Coetsee to fire the ball past the keeper and make sure of the three points.
