Cape Town - SuperSport United squandered a chance to cement their place
in the top eight of the Absa Premiership standings as they were held to a 2-2
draw by Polokwane City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.
Dean Furman looked to have secured a rare home win for
Matsatsantsa, but Tshepo Matsemela found the back
of the net with one minute of regulation time remaining to secure a third
successive draw for Rise and Shine.
Polokwane started the game on the front foot with Esau Kanyenda unlucky to see his header attempt canon
off the post in the 12th minute.
SuperSport, though, would open
the scoring with Dove Wome netting his fourth goal of the season after George
Chigova parried Bradley Grobler's close range effort in the 32nd minute.
Cole Alexander forced Ronwen
Williams into a good save on the stroke of halftime before Kanyenda leveled
matters in the 65th minute. The Malawi international with a tap in - punishing
poor defending by the hosts.
Furman restored SuperSport's
lead two minutes later with his first goal for the Tshwane club. His
left-footed stunner worthy of all three points, but Matsemela had the last
second-half substitute with a crisp finish of his own to secure a
point for the Limpopo side.
SuperSport United (1) 2 (Grobler 32' Furman 67')
Polokwane City (0) 2 (Kanyenda 65' Matsemela 89')
