SuperSport not down and out

Cape Town - Despite SuperSport United's elimination from the Telkom Knockout, coach Gordon Igesund insists that his team's morale is no longer at rock bottom.

Mamelodi Sundowns thrashed United 3-1 to advance to the final of the cup competition at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

Matsatsantsa's erratic performances this season has seen them struggling in the bottom half of the Premiership table and they are now out of the competition they won last season.

"Let me correct you. The morale is not low, the players were highly motivated for the game last night and obviously disappointed to end up losing it," Igesund told KickOff.

"They are disappointed about the result against Sundowns. Of course they are a little bit gutted but the morale, atmosphere, the spirit, team and everybody is very good.

"The morale is definitely not low. Yes, we are disappointed we lost last night because we gave our best.

"We had a tough start. We know that, that is no secret, the players know that. We are working hard to turn things around.

"The last four games we were unbeaten and we are hoping to continue that and give ourselves a better position.

"Like I said, two wins in row will take you to fourth or fifth position. There are five points separating the teams in the top six."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
