SuperSport aims to end season off 'properly'

Cape Town - Cape Town City's title hopes suffered a damaging blow after they slumped to a 4-2 defeat against SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday.

Eric Tinkler's side got off to a flying start as the broke the deadlock after just seven minutes, but Matsatsantsa hit back go take a 2-2 lead early in the second half.

City equalised from the spot to keep their title bid alive, but two goals from the hosts in the closing stages inflicted a damaging defeat, which left them five points adrift of the league summit in third place.

United coach Stuart Baxter believes that his charges showed great character against the Citizens and admits that his players want to finish the 2016/17 season on a high.

"I thought we played very well. We had two massive chances and started really well and then suddenly after six minutes I don't even know how we contrived to give away a goal like that but okay, we're 1-0 down," Baxter said as quoted by KickOff website.

"(We showed) great character and we came back and I thought we played well through for the whole game and I thought it was a good game of football.

"The lads want to finish it properly and they're doing it well, they are running the games well and so far they have done a great job."
