Sundowns without Brimah in the Champions League

Cape Town - Newly-signed Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Razak Brimah has not been registered in time to help the club defend their CAF Champions League title.

Ghana international keeper Brimah was signed by Sundowns earlier this month after the club had seen Wayne Sandilands depart for Orlando Pirates.

But Sundowns were unable to get his international clearance in time for last Friday's CAF deadline, head coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed.

Instead, Thela Ngobeni has been added to the squad as back-up for Denis Onyango and Kennedy Mweene.

"His ITC came late, so Razak is not registered for the Champions League. So he will help Denis (Onyango) in the local programme," Mosimane told the media.

"We have Thela because we can't go with two (goalkeepers)."

The former Bafana coach admitted his African squad is thin after losing a couple of players.

"Wayne Sandilands dropped me the day we were leaving for Esperance. He said 'I am not travelling, I am leaving'. Teko (Modise) dropped me the day we were leaving for Ethiopia. We did not drop Teko, he left us. We have only 20 players (for the Champions League)."

The Brazilians are set to face Wydad Casablanca in a home and away ties in the middle of September, with the winner going through to the semi-finals.
