Cape Town - Out-of-favour Mamelodi Sundowns striker Jeremy Brockie has joined Maritzburg United on a season-long loan, just hours ahead of the transfer deadline.
The 31-year-old New Zealander joined Masandawana from SuperSport United midway through the 2017/18 campaign, having scored eight times in 27 appearances the previous campaign.
However, he has struggled to break into the team under coach Pitso Mosimane, and with his first-team prospects not improving this term, Brockie has joined the Team of Choice in order to gain some much-needed game-time.
In a statement published on Maritzburg's website, club chairperson Farook Kadodia said: "This is a headline signing for us, acquiring a player who comes with such an excellent pedigree.
"We were content with the squad reinforcements which had been made, but when Brockie became available, we could not pass up on the opportunity to bring him to Pietermaritzburg.
"The reality is, we cannot continue to cry about missed chances, games which we dominated but failed to score in.
"With Jeremy, we know how prolific he was during his time with SuperSport United; he is an experienced, proven PSL goal-scorer with an excellent all-round game and we feel very optimistic about what he will bring to our team."
Kadodia continued: "We believe that Maritzburg United will provide a great opportunity for the player to reignite his career.
"Fans at the Harry Gwala Stadium will remember when Brockie played here in a SuperSport jersey and made our lives tough - he always seemed to score here - I recall a game when we were fighting relegation and Brockie turned and scored with a volley to win the match for his team.
"So this is more than just a signing. This is an investment for the city and a major thank you for our fast growing fan base in the province of KwaZulu-Natal."
