Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is set to offload a number of first team players while eyeing some new signings ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
A number of players in Sundowns' squad in 2018/19 failed to live up to expectations despite a season of success in all competitions.
The Brazilians won the Absa Premiership while also advancing to the semi-final stages of the CAF Champions League where they lost to Wydad Casablanca.
With that said, they enjoyed an incredible 5-1 aggregate victory over Al-Ahly in the quarter-final stages in a result which stunned the African continent.
Nonetheless, a number of Downs' squad have failed to produce the goods which includes New Zealand international striker Jeremy Brockie who managed just two goals in all competitions.
In addition, the likes of Andile Jali and Oupa Mayisa rarely produced the goods whereas winger George Lebese spent the second half of the campaign out on loan at SuperSport United.
It is already confirmed that goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni is set to depart while Aubrey Ngoma, Lucky Mohomi and Cuthbert Malajila are also facing the axe.
Meanwhile, Jose Ali Meza takes up a foreigner berth but failed to make any impact in the first team.
As such, Mosimane revealed changes are to be made, saying: "We will keep the team, we keep the players we have, but of course you've got to reduce [the number].
"There are a lot of players who we are going to give space to leave, but you need to strengthen a little bit.
"Yeah, I've never known any team that says, 'no, we don't want any player'. Ask Man City if [coach] Pep Guardiola wants to sign any player.
"Ask [Barcelona coach] Ernesto Valverde who won the league with so many points if he wants to strengthen. We all want to strengthen.
"The CAF Champions League doesn't require the same kind of quality and personnel as the Premier League.
"We need one more upfront, a strong one, who's convincing and can get 10-12 goals [in the Champions League]. Emiliano Tade is good and will help us a little bit. I think he can help us with the first round, group stage and quarterfinals.
"But the semi-finals and the final are different games."
