Sundowns scoop another top award

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns were named Team of the Year at the annual South African Sports Awards following their recent success both domestically and on the continent.

The Brazilians were among the favourites for the gong after winning the CAF Champions League - an achievement that makes them just the second local club to land Africa's most prestigious club competition, along with Orlando Pirates in 1995.

It has been a remarkable 12 months for the defending Premiership champions as Pitso Mosimane's men also reached the final of the MTN8 final where they lost to Bidvest Wits.

Masandawana also secured the Telkom Knockout less than a year ago after beating Kaizer Chiefs.

In addition, the Chloorkop-based outfit will have a crack at FIFA's Club World Cup which begins in December.
