Sundowns player arrested for reckless driving

Cape Town - An unnamed Mamelodi Sundowns player was arrested on Sunday morning for driving well over the speed limit in Midrand, Gauteng.

The 32-year-old was immediately taken into custody after being clocked doing 180km/h in a 120km/h zone, according to Gauteng's department of community safety spokesperson Ofentse Morwane.

He has since been released on bail and is due to appear in the Midrand Magistrate Court on charges of reckless driving and exceeding the speed limit.

"Among those arrested include a 32-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns soccer player on Sunday morning on the N1 in Midrand for travelling at an average speed of 180km/h in a 120km/h zone," Morwane was quoted as saying by TimesLive.

"The soccer player was caught in his Silver Toyota Quest. He claimed that he was rushing back home in Roodepoort after dropping off a friend in Centurion.

"He was arrested on the spot and taken to the Midrand Police Station‚ where he was formally charged with reckless driving and an alternative charge of exceeding the speed limit of 120km/h on a freeway.

"He has been granted bail of R1 500 and will be appearing in the Midrand Magistrate Court soon."
