Sundowns host Chiefs in epic Absa Premiership opener

Cape Town - The Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Monday confirmed opening fixtures of the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season.

The season is scheduled to get under way on the weekend of August 4-5 - with six games being played.

The opening fixture sees the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns take on Kaizer Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld.

Some of the fixtures on Saturday, include Cape Town City hosting SuperSport United, while Orlando Pirates play newly promoted Highlands Park.

On Sunday, Nedbank Cup champions Bloemfontein Celtic battle Chippa United and Maritzburg United host Golden Arrows in Pietermaritzburg.

There is still some uncertainty over Ajax Cape Town's status in the Absa Premiership this season, after the club was relegated to the National First Division.

Striker Tendai Ndoro joined Ajax last season midway through their campaign, having previously represented Orlando Pirates and Al-Faisaly.

This raised eyebrows within the Premiership, as some felt he had violated a FIFA rule by representing his third club in the same season.

The ruling was set aside by Judge Denise Fisher at the South Gauteng High Court, as she ruled that only FIFA had jurisdiction over the matter. The PSL has decided to appeal against Judge Fisher's ruling.
