Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly had an offer turned down by Egyptian giants Al Ahly for the services of young forward Phakamani Mahlambi.

Mahlambi is said to be unsettled in Egypt and has failed to establish himself since his move from Bidvest Wits in 2017, registering one goal and five assists in 15 appearances for the Club of the Century.

The 20-year-old is reportedly trying to force his way out of the club and recently went absent from training as he made clear his feelings about staying.

The Bafana Bafana starlet was subsequently fined for his actions, with Al Ahly now revealing he will be allowed to leave if the right offer comes in.

Sundowns are believed to have made an offer, although it fell well short of the Cairo outfit's asking price.

Al Ahly director of transfers Mohamed Fadl told KingFut: "We have signed Phakamani Mahlambi for 1.3 million, but we might sell him for around 2 million because we see him as a very good player.

"He is a big player and plays for the South African national team, but we have very special foreign players, and that's why he is currently in this situation.

"Phakamani doesn't want to continue with Al Ahly and we have got approval from Patrice Carteron to sell him. We can't force him to stay.

"But we can't buy Phakamani for 1.3 million and then sell him for only 500 000."
