Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns' hopes of signing Al Ahly and Bafana Bafana international Phakamani Mahlambi have seemingly been dashed after he was registered for 2018/19 season.
The Club of the Century were said to be considering offers for Mahlambi and he was not given a squad number for the upcoming campaign in the Egyptian Premier League.
However, a long-term injury to Nigeria striker Junior Ajayi meant that the side had to reconsider their options and subsequently the South African starlet was registered for the new campaign.
As such, it seems the Brazilians can no longer capture the services of the talented Johannesburg-born player during the current transfer window.
"Having spent the day in Cairo with Phakamani at the club as his situation has evolved over the past 24 hours, he now finds himself back in the Ahly squad and fighting for his place in the team," the striker's agent, Glyn Binkin, confirmed the news to Soccer Laduma website.
"Ahly is the biggest club in Africa and with it comes a team full of quality players. Phakamani realizes that and understands that he needs to continue to work hard and grab his chance when given the opportunity.
"The club has a fantastic new coach who believes in the player, and under whose guidance I am sure Phakamani will flourish."
