Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town have confirmed the signature of former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thendo Mukumela ahead of the 2018/19 National First Division season.

Mukumela's arrival was revealed on Tuesday morning and it appears he has been ear-marked as a replacement for Mosa Lebusa, who recently made the switch to Chloorkop.

The 20-year-old centre-back was promoted to the senior set-up in August last year, alongside the talented Keletso Makgalwa.

However, the player struggled to establish himself in the first team with his competition being the likes of Ricardo Nascimento, Wayne Arendse, Motjeka Madisha and Bangaly Soumahoro.

Ajax tweeted: "There is a new star at Ikamva. Welcome to Ajax Cape Town, Thendo Mukumela!"

The Limpopo-born youngster is an ex-youth international for South Africa having represented the U17s and U20s at two FIFA World Cups.
