Cape Town - Orlando Pirates midfielder Musa Nyatama bizzarely claimed that Mamelodi Sundowns have already wrapped up the league title despite holding just a one-point lead.
With Sundowns taking a break from league action this weekend to face Rayon Sports in the CAF Champions League, second-placed Pirates closed the gap to the Brazilians with a 2-1 win over Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday.
However, players and coach Milutin Sredojevic alike have repeatedly remained coy when questioned on their title chances. After picking up the Man of the Match award on Saturday, Nyatama was no different.
“We are not looking for the league. I think Mamelodi Sundowns have won it already,” the 30-year-old told SuperSport TV when asked about his side's chances of league glory.
On Saturday's game itself, Nyatama said: “We needed the three points. We have been working very hard at training even with our tactics. I’m happy for the three points and the Man of the Match [award].
“We needed to make it a point that we score and dominate the game. In the first half, we didn’t take our chances, but in the second half, we managed to score two goals - which I’m happy with. It was a nervous last ten minutes, but I’m happy we managed to win.
“We needed to keep the ball. That’s our game model. We will work at training to ensure we don’t lose concentration towards the end of the match.”
