Sundowns and Pirates hoping to postpone league matches

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are reportedly hoping for a postponement of one of their Absa Premiership fixtures in March, ahead of their crunch CAF Champions League fixtures.

According to TimesLive, the duo have approached the league's governing body, the PSL, to ask that their mid-March league fixtures be pushed back to allow for extra time to travel.

Sundowns are scheduled to face Wydad Casablanca in Morocco on March 16, while Pirates will face Horoya AC in Guinea on the same day.

However, both sides face a tricky situation as the current Premiership schedule sees them playing just days before their crucial Champions League group games.

Pirates are due to host Black Leopards on March 13, leaving them with very little time to prepare for their clash with Horoya, while Sundowns will travel to Maritzburg on March 12.

The PSL are expected to accept the request of the high-flying duo, but it remains to be seen where the rescheduled Premiership fixtures will fit in an already jam-packed fixture list.

Sundowns are next in action when they welcome the in-form CT City to Loftus Versveld Stadium on February 27.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
