Students want early Mncwango arrival

Cape Town - Wits head coach Gavin Hunt is hopeful the club can agree to rope in striker Thobani Mncwango six months earlier than his agreed transfer.

Mncwango, 30, signed a pre-contract with the Premiership Champions which will come into effect upon the expiry of his current deal with Polokwane City at the end of the current campaign.

However, with the Clever Boys in a precarious league position in 16th place - with a dire need for attacking reinforcements, Hunt is keen for the talented striker to arrive early in Braamfontein.

With only seven goals scored in 14 league outings and Mncwango heavily out of favour at Rise and Shine, the former SuperSport United boss feels an amicable agreement can take place for the South Africa international who scored 13 goals in 21 league starts in the 2015/16 season.

"If he comes, it will help in terms of our strikers, where we certainly need a bit more legs and movement," Hunt told reporters. "For whatever reason, he hasn't played for six months, and we are prepared to negotiate something there."

Wits have already announced the arrivals of striker Lehlohonolo Majoro, defenders Edwin Gyimah, Denis Weidlich and the return of playmaker Sifiso Myeni from his loan with SuperSport United.
