Stellenbosch ready for PSL as Chippa await

Cape Town - Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker says his team is looking forward to their first game in the top-flight as they prepare to take on Chippa United away from home on Saturday.

The team from the Cape Winelands, of course, won the National First Division (NFD) last season and are now getting ready for their maiden voyage in the PSL.

Barker says Stellies, as they are known, have "prepared well" for their first encounter with 11 new signings on the books.

"We're all looking forward to our first match in the top flight and have prepared well for it," Barker said.

"We've strengthened our ranks in all departments with 11 new signings but also retain the bulk of last season's squad that won us the NFD title and automatic promotion to the PSL."

Barker and his charges face a Chippa side that flirted with relegation last season but, under head coach Clinton Larsen, survived the dreaded axe.

"I have a high regard for Clinton; he knows his stuff and has no doubt plotted our downfall," added Barker.

"Fact of the matter is we've been able to see the Chilli Boys' matches on television and seen what they're all about, whereas they wouldn't know much about us but rather let’s let our performance do the talking."
