Cape Town - South African football legend and Jomo Cosmos boss Jomo Sono believes Chippa United's Linda Mntambo is the best midfielder in the country.
Mntambo was at Cosmos for four years before Sono decided to sell the 28-year-old to Chippa United in the current transfer window.
The former National First Division star then scored a brace on debut for the Chilli Boys against AmaZulu, before producing a Man-of-the-Match display against Golden Arrows.
The powerful box-to-box midfielder moved to Port Elizabeth along with former Ezenkosi teammate Mxolisi Macuphu. Nonetheless, the Black Prince rates the player highly and takes the view he hasn't seen a talent like him in his position.
He told Kickoff: "Mntambo is a different player. For my money he's the best midfield player here in South Africa, don't ask me in the NFD or Premier [Soccer] League.
"He's a box-to-box midfield player. I've never seen a player like this. When he came to us he was not doing well and playing street football, but we changed him. You know he has been with me for four years.
"It took him two years for people to take notice that 'this is player'. Two years being with me and unnoticed, and he's become a hell of a player.
"I've never seen a player that doesn't stop on the field. He's always busy and he's dangerous. We taught him to get in the box and now he knows how to get into the box. Unbelievable player."
Mntambo will be looking to continue his rich vein of form when Chippa welcome the struggling Platinum Stars to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in an Absa Premiership clash on Sunday.
Kick-off is at 15:30.
