Solinas pleased with performance against Sundowns

Cape Town - New Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas was pleased with his side's performance in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld.

Amakhosi took the lead through Ramahlwe Mphahlele in the eighth minute before Sundowns equalised through a Ricardo Nascimento penalty.

Both teams had chances to take the lead afterwards, but they ultimately had to share the spoils.

"It was an intense game. I'm very satisfied with the performance of my players,” Solinas told SuperSport.

"They played very well against a very good side like Mamelodi Sundowns who play very good football.

"It's a pity, because in the second half, we missed two or three good opportunities. We could've won the game but I'm very satisfied with the result and performance."

However, Solinas admitted that his players still need to work on their fitness, as he felt Masandawana were in better condition as a result of having played two CAF Champions League matches against Togo-Port last month.

"We need to improve our fitness. Sundowns started early because they were playing in the African Champions League you know at the moment Sundowns' fitness is much better than us. I'm confident with the future," he said.

Amakhosi will face another tough test against Wits at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
