Solinas: Clever Boys gave Chiefs a lesson

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs head coach Giovanni Solinas expects his charges to quickly learn from the mistakes made in their defeat to Wits on Tuesday.

Amakhosi started the game brightly but conceded first after a brilliant strike from the Clever Boys' new signing Deon Hotto.

The Glamour Boys fought back to level the game at 1-1 through Leonardo Castro, but goals from Terrence Dzvukamanja and Gift Motupa saw all three points going to the Clever Boys.

"We conceded three goals," said the Italy-born mentor.

"We lost the shape. We have to learn from this game. It's a lesson for us."

Assessing the match at the FNB Stadium, Solinas felt there was a need for improvement at both ends of the park.

"We started well but we conceded the big space behind the defenders," he explained.

"Wits exploited this space. This is the game. We need to improve in converting the chances and in defence. We created chances, but we didn't convert them.

"Wits were very clinical. They had three chances and three goals. We need more determination into the box. We need to improve in the tactical situations."

Amakhosi now get set to take on Free State in the MTN8 this Saturday, and the challenge for Solinas is to affect improvement in a short space of time.

"The team needs a lot of training sessions because they need to learn the movement, but we play every two or three days," he said.

"We don't have time for training. So we focus on things in the next game because we need a win in the next game."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
